WELCOME TO 2007

Can I wish everyone a very prosperous New Year, and thanks to everyone who has helped to make 2006 such a great year for Blackhistory4schools.com. 2007 already looks like a packed year full of challenges and I thought I would outline a few of the projects that I am involved in over the next few months.

Starting next week, I will be running a session at the BETT show 2007 at Olympia on January 10, introducing people to Black History on the Internet and explaining how to write a webquest, basically a series of online lessons, such as the ones you can find in the resources section here. My favourite webquest of the ones that I have written is The Black and Asian Soldiers of the First World War

I have also been commissioned by the Northampton Black History Association to write some teaching materials for KS3 pupils (11-13 year olds) about Walter Tull. I am really looking forward to learning more about Tull because he seemed such an amazing character, and it combines two of my great interests - football and history. Tull was the second Black professional footballer in England, and the first Black Officer in the British Army (during World War One).

I am also going to run a workshop about Tull at the Schools History Project Conference in July.

Finally, a couple of quick plugs for some media appearances that I have made recently: you can hear the interview that I did for Radio 5 Live about the state of history teaching here and can catch me on ITV's 'Fortune; million pound giveaway' over the next couple of weeks!
