IT'S A BEGINNING
History, despite its wrenching pain
Cannot be unlived, but if faced
With courage, need not be lived again
Maya AngelouThis is the not the start of the journey for that has already begun, but it is the start of something special; the culmination of many years of talking, thinking, arguing, preparing and doing. Those of you who read this are going to be part of this adventure, and those who help to plot the course and guide the way will be helping us all to make a difference. BH4Schools is the first, dedicated website to provide teaching materials, weblinks, video and audio resources to support the teaching of Black British History in schools in the UK. The Black History Blog will showcase the new material that has come online, and be a forum for sharing ideas, discussing and debating pertinent issues. The strength and success of the BHB depends on the contributions that it receives. I would encourage everyone who reads this to share the knowledge around, sell the message far and wide and heed the words of Maya Angelou.
Big up to Dan and Scott for all their hard work on making Blackhistory4schools what it is today.
Cheers
Dan

This site is a real gem - If we are to take Every Child Matters and social inclusion seriously we need to consider not just how we teach BUT what we teach!

A well needed idea that can be used to access vital information to aid the fight against racism. It can show the human interplay between European, African and Asian nations This is not only Black history, or even British history it is world history. This kind of of web site will expose new truths that are a missing part of human history. Good Job Dan.

I fully support the words of Simon and Donna, this is an excellent resource. If we can engender an environment where History can be challenged and differing perspectives can be put forward then we are surly on the right path.
I cannot support enough the view of Donna when she states ‘This is not only Black history or even British history it is world history’.
I have to say though, that I am rather worried by some of the narrow minded comments that have been made on the Guardian, The Black History Blog http://talk.guardian.co.uk/WebX?13@999.CCLljm3h6bN.1@.77505ddc/39 it goes to show that this is going to be a long and tricky road.
Yours sincerely and fraternally
Namaste

No one can tell me about black history but a black person or me. I am really tired of everyone else trying to tell me about my ancestors and all that they know is during slavery time. Lets let us teach about us
